The Shed 37, June–July 2011

In The Shed Issue 37, Hugh McCarroll designs and builds his own scaffold tower which will pack away into a family station wagon for easy transportation. We have an extensive report on how to best build a sustainable house, brought about in part by the huge reconstruction required after the Christchurch earthquake. Everything for the modern house builder is discussed here. Peter Northway makes up a jig to turn out 100 balusters and David Blackwell guides us the refurbishment of his treasured hand plane. Jude introduces us to a new switchable magnetic clamp for use when welding before we visit the shed of Peter Neal where all things wooden are made such as toys, furntiture, wagon wheels and much more. Hamish Brown helps us to choose the correct air compressor before Greg Holster shows us how gasless wire welding is a real breeze. Finally this issue, John Craig shows us step by step how to make a knife sheath out of leather.
