The Shed 66, April–May 2016

This issue Ray Cleaver meets Nyall Simkin of New Plymouth who has restored not one but three Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts. A 1908, 1914 and 1920 Alpine Eagle Speedster. Hugh McCarroll transforms leftover aluminium tube and plywood offcuts into a very stylish occasional table and Stuart Guy creates awesome stoves from old gas bottles. We head to Stewart Island to meet Allan Wadds and enjoy seeing how he performs local repair jobs using tools and equipment he has been gifted. Part II of our metalworking lathe series shows how to do the all-important setup correctly and we visit Auckland glass artist Emily Siddell who creates some truly dynamic pieces. Stu's Shed this issue is all about extra effort to get that extra special result for a hall table and we see "Dumbo" finally take to the air, a fully restored 1944 Catalina Flying Boat. Jude extolls the virtues of using Macrocarpa timber in place of treated wood and we meet John Ward of Taranaki who has a lifelong passion for taxidermy. Mark Beckett shows us how to make your own parking sensor then shares the secrets of amplification with us.
