New Zealand Classic Car 345, September 2019

In 1971 Skoda decided rallying might just give its cars some much needed cool factor — and it very nearly worked! The rear-engined layout and some serious engine fettling paid off in class wins and even some impressive overall results here and overseas. When Colin Waite found his former 1973 Heatway Rally in a barn quite by chance, 25 years later, he didn’t hesitate to take it on another journey back to its prime. And, this month, it is a genuinely cool cover car.

On the other hand, after Chris Steele had sold his grandmother’s Hillman Super Minx, he couldn’t stop thinking about it. So, after more than a decade, he launched a mission to find it and then restore it. The result is a triumph of passion and dedication.
