D-Photo 85, August—September 2018

In this issue all 36 winning images from the Sigma D-Photo Amateur Photographer of the Year are revealed. We find out what it takes to combine photography with extreme travel on Mark Watson’s bicycle trip through the Americas and meet Walter’s Prize recipient Pati Solomona Tyrell, who explores Pacific queer identity through shifting kaleidoscopic imagery. Plus, we interview the new generation of photographer: two Kiwis who secured top spots at this year’s Sony Alpha Awards Youth Competition, and digital artist Gee Greenslade gives us an insight into her practice. We learn from Aotearoa’s experts how to take documentary photographs, and Michael Hall talks us through the why and how of large-format photography.
